Soviet OB-3 Train Package – 28mm scale –

$15.00

Armoured trains have a special niche in modern warfare. They are something that really should not have worked – after all, their movement was restricted to the rails, and that poses many tactical limitations. However, in the right environment, armoured trains offered the ability to patrol vast area where rail is the most reliable transportation option. Railways ran through the major communication and logistics centres, so when those were threatened, the fastest way to get reinforcements to those sectors was rail Armoured trains were able to quickly reinforce threatened points with troops, artillery and anti-aircraft support.

Although trains were introduced in previous Bolt Action campaign / theatre books, the recent Case Blue book identifies a historically correct train system. On page 172, the author presents the Soviet OB-3 train. The OB-3 has four entries – the engine, an anti-aircraft car, a turreted gun car, and a flat car. Armour upgrade options are available for several of the cars.

To represent this train system on the Bolt Action table, this .stl set includes.

  • The engine. It includes the quad MMG offered in the unit entry. The quad MMGs include .stls specifically for FDM, for resin, and resin with an admittedly rudimentary figure (for resin). I did a second resin quad with a plastic WLG Soviet figure as an alternative (that figure is not included)
  • An armoured gun car, with a turret and the four-side mounted MMGs.
  • An armoured anti-aircraft car, with the AA auto cannon – with both a basic .stl for FDM and a more finely detailed gun for resin printing, complete with and seated gunner figures.
  • A flat car

The cars are single axle, as were the cars on the OB-3 system, reflecting the simplified design.

The train and cars are designed to fit onto the Deweycat train track system, which is available separately.
