Procopius –
A nice, uncomplicated set of files for building the M4A1, which is sadly underrepresented in the STL world. Everything goes together well, with no fiddly bits, and I found it easy to hollow and support for both 1/72 and 1/56 scale printing.
Be advised, however, that there are some dimensional issues. The hull is about 3% shorter than it ought to be, while at the same time being 3% wider than it should. These are small differences, and I imagine most people won’t notice or care one bit. It does become quite noticeable next to other Shermans that have more accurate dimensions, as the tanks look rather short and portly. I’ve printed three in 1/56 and six in 1/72; the 1/56 tanks I used on their own, and they looked just fine, but the 1/72 tanks are used alongside other printer Shermans, and the difference is very noticeable (to me). Since most people using these will either be fielding a single tank (for Bolt Action) or multiple M4A1s (e.g. US armored forces in Normandy), it likely won’t crop up usually. My 1/72 examples, however, were for the Fourth Armoured Brigade operating along Hell’s Highway, and they operated Sherman Is (M4s), Sherman IIs (M4A1s) and Sherman Fireflies (a mix of M4A1 Composites and M4A4s), and the difference was pretty noticeable. I’m going to try printing another batch scaled down 80% instead of the normal 77.78% for 1/72.
