M1/IPM1/M1A1/M1A2 Abrams main battle tank is manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS). The first M1 tank was produced in 1978, the M1A1 in 1985 and the M1A2 in 1986. A total of 3,273 M1 tanks were produced for the US Army, 4,796 M1A1 tanks were built for the US Army, 221 for the US Marines and 880 co-produced with Egypt. the IPM1 is a minor upgrade to the basic M1, increasing the turret cheek armour, and was applied to most M1 tanks.
This model is a 1:100 design, with highly detailed turret (separate), hull and tracks. The resin version has the hull and tracks integrated for direct printing; the fdm version keeps these items separate for ease of printing. A version of the turret with MGs is also included, with separate models for the 50cal and 7.62 MG. The resin version is hollow to reduce the use of raw material, but both hollow and solid versions of the hull are available in the fdm zip file.
This design is differentiated from other available M1 Abrams tank models by the highly detailed tracks, which are still very printable, which result in a more pleasing model, to my eyes. If using fibre printing, care will need to be taken to remove the supports, and the tracks are best printed with the axles at ninety degrees to the printing plate.
