USN Mahan Class Destroyer
- Description
- Files
The Mahan class destroyers were a class of 18 ships. Built in 1934 ~ 1937.
The Mahan class was an improved version of the Farragut class. The last 2 ships in the class, Dunlap and Fanning, are sometimes considered a separate class; The Dunlap Class.
The Dunlap and the Fanning had the newer Mark 25 enclosed mounts for the 2 forward 5-inch/38 caliber guns. And were the first USN Destroyers to use enclosed gun mounts rather than shields.
As built;
5 x 5 inch (127 mm)/38 caliber guns, 4 x .50 caliber machine guns, 12 21-inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes (3 x 4) 2 x depth charge stern racks.
The Mahan received a number of upgrades, extra AA, removal of the mid 5 inch gun, 4 x K-guns added, due to heavy damage to some ships other modifications have been included.
During WW2 6 ships were lost.
5 different models are provided;

Non Commercial and personal use only.
The models are provided in 1/1000 scale and is Resin print only.
1/1800 - resize to 55,56%
1/1200 - resize to 83,5%
There are a number of bases provided, text recessed and the text raised. I used the recessed version for FDM printed bases. Finally a base without text is also included. Do not forget to also re-scale the bases if you print in 1/1200 or 1/1800 scale.
Bases provided for Mahan class, Dunlap class and named bases for the USN Dunlap and USN Fanning.
Also included 1/1800 scale pre-supported models for each type which I used for the test-prints on my Anycubic Mono SE (0.05mm layer) using standard resin. Use at your own risk, might be best you create your own supported files, which prints best on you own printer. Some parts are rather delicate, mainly the gun barrels, and you will need to remove support carefully.
The base was printed on an Ender 5 pro (0.16 mm layer) standard PLA. But could also be printed in Resin if you want, which will provide a better print compared to my PLA printed bases. (no supported file provided)
