Model Description:
This download contains a highly detailed model of an M4A3E8 "Easy Eight" Sherman. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness).
The model is designed for resin 3D printing comes natively in 20mm (1/72) scale and includes a supported version for this size. Furthermore, the files are pre-hollowed, reducing the material requirements, improving the probability of print success, and ensuring no voids are present within the geometry.
The file is designed to be detailed enough to hold up well at larger scales however, including the common 28mm (~1/56) scale. Larger scales will have to be manually supported at present, however a future goal of TCR designs is to include supported files for larger scales, as well as a less-detailed version designed to function on FDM (filament) printers.
The model at its native scale took roughly 5 hours to print on an "Anycubic Photon Mono 4K" printer and has the following dimensions:
Length - 4" (102mm)
Width - 1.59" (40mm)
Height - 1.61" (41mm)
Historical Description:
The M4 Sherman was an iconic medium tank used throughout World War 2 by the Allies. The vehicle saw constant upgrades throughout the war, with armaments ranging from a low velocity 75mm cannon on the original versions, to the more powerful 76.2mm cannons found on later examples, with some versions even mounting 105mm Howitzers. This model represents a late war version of the Sherman, the M4A3E8 "Easy Eight", featuring the newer HVSS suspension and sporting the long-barreled 76.2mm (3") cannon. The M4A3E8 would see some action after World War 2, in Korea, where it fought against the T-34s that were once allied in fighting Germany.
The Sherman was the most common tank fielded by American forces throughout World War 2, with almost 50,000 examples being built between the different versions. The vehicle was an effective infantry support vehicle, and while overshadowed by vehicles like the Tiger and Panther, was far more impactful due to how many more were present. The Sherman was no slouch, which can be seen in the Pacific Theater where its competition was less sophisticated, making the Sherman better armored, and armed than anything it was likely to come across.
In Armored Advance:
In armored advance the M4A3E8 is an upgrade on the earlier Sherman variants, except sporting a more powerful cannon and improved mobility due to the HVSS design. The vehicle is the most effective, albeit most expensive, medium tank variant of the Sherman. The armor is lackluster for the point investment; however, the cannon has a significant penetration boost over the 75mm, and an extra point of damage to boot. The additional mobility allows the vehicle to play a more active role and switches it from being a moderately armored (for the cost) battle tank with an average gun, to a relatively poorly protected (again, for the cost) maneuver vehicle with a potent gun.
