Deweycat One Inch Spacer Game Aid for Bolt Action
- Description
- Files
Game Aids in Bolt Action are a lot like kitchen gadgets. Some people manage to prepare all their meals with only a chef’s knife and a vegetable peeler, while others have their kitchen drawers stuffed with specialty gadgets for every conceivable culinary task.
I am in the latter group – I can heartly recommend the world’s best garlic dicer – and my game gadget box is currently stuffed with multiple game aids.
At the 2024 CTC Bolt Action tournament in Ottawa, I had the opportunity to play against Matthew Ranks and he had this nifty gadget I had never seen before; it was a simple device, a 1” diameter with a small stick protruding. Matt explained he had received it at a previous Bolt Action tournament. Although Matt wasn’t able to recall the designer of the gadget, kudos to whomever thought of it.
When I got home, I went to work and designed a quick print for such a device; in Bolt Action the 1” spacing between units is important concerning unit placement, firing past friendly units, and other game actions. Although this is often done with a tape measure, the very nature of close contact can make this awkward.
This game aid allows the spacer to be placed easily to confirm a 1” distance, without the risk of knocking any models or terrain feature askew.
The .stl offers a two piece print – the handle friction fits to the base – so it can be easily put together and apart for storage. There is also a one part .stl offered for resin printing.
The test prints were done in FDM at .2mm layers.

Always clean support material away carefully and test fit before gluing.
