Deweycat American M15 MGMC stl pack - 1-56th scale
The American army was kick started into mechanized warfare with the outbreak of the then European focused WW2 in 1939. Americans quickly realized that the future ground operations would be mobile, and that it was essential to have air defence systems that were able to keep up with mechanized forces.
Designs quickly focused on the M2 / M3 half track series, and two half track Anti-aircraft weapon system entered mass production: the M 16 “Meat Chopper” armed with quad . 50 HMGs, and the M 15, which went with the 37mm automatic cannon, coupled with two M2 .50 HMGS in a rotating open turret.
Over 2000 M 15s were produced and they served in both the European and Pacific theatre and saw service in the later Korean conflict. Some M 15s were supplied to post-war allies as well. As the Allies had total air superiority in most cases in WW 2, these AFVs were extensively used in the direct fire infantry support role, to great effect.
In Bolt Action, the M 15 provides the potent firepower of a heavy autocannon twinned with two HMGs. The 72” range of the autocannon will provide AA cover across the entire board, while being able to pose a credible threat to infantry as well as to AFVs up to 9+ armour.
I had previously posted a significant rework of Marcus Mole’s and Bergman’s M 15/M3 series .stls, but they were lacking detail and I wasn’t happy with them. This new set is an original .stl. There are two versions, one for resin printing and a second for FDM. The FDM version required thicker gun barrels, built in supports in the gun basket and separate front roller and front axle, to ensure the hull is flat to the FDM printer build plate. There are driver and gunner figures (for resin only); they are pretty basic figures but serve the purpose. Third party figures (seated drivers etc.) work well for both the driver and gunner positions.
The resin .stls include a pre-supported files and a hollowed hull .stl.
• Your results in FDM require fine settings, with full supports.
• Please note the pre-supported files for resin printing may not be ideal for your printer, resin, or settings. They are provided as a courtesy only, and while they worked well for me, your results may vary.
• Always clean support material away carefully and test fit before gluing.
