Cymbeline radar on FV432 chassis

1:100 model of the British Cymberline mortar-locating radar on  a FV432 Mk2 chassis.

The British Cymbeline mortar and artillery locating radar was a replacement for the earlier Green Archer system.  The earlier system was mounted on a modified FV432 chassis, and designated FV436, but did not enter formal service.  Cymbeline was a much improved and updated Green Archer, exploiting advances in electronics, including the move from valve to transistor technology.  The result was a much more compact system that could be mounted on top of a FV432 platform, exploiting the large roof hatch.  Further details can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymbeline_(radar) and http://www.radartutorial.eu/19.kartei/11.ancient/karte187.en.html

This product provides the parts to print a model of this radar system, which was widely used by the Royal Artillery in Germany and elsewhere.  A modified FV432 Mk2 chassis is provided, with separate track assemblies to optimise printing.  The track assemblies should be printed with wheel axes vertical, and the body sitting on its bottom face.  Tracks should only have supports from the base to minimise the need to remove supports.  A separate rear plate is provided to give the user flexibility, and to allow printing with greater detail.  It should be printed flat.

The radar assembly has the radar scanner as a separate item, which should be printed with the transmitting face vertical, and supports only from the base.  The various generators, kit boxes, hoist and jerrycan should be fixed as indicated on the photograph of the completed model.

Frames are provided for optional use.  These represent the metal mesh protective guards that were used to provide protection to the scanner unit when in transit.  They should be shown in the lowered position, and a fine mesh can be fitted for improved realism, but this cannot readily be printed at this scale using a 3D printer.

The zip file has been updated to reflect an improvement in the base FV432 hull.  The original version had a void under the engine grille which could cause printing issues, and the rear of the hull was a little too thin for some printing technologies.
