First of her kind!

Roanoke was originally built as a Merrimac-class steam frigate identical to the Minnesota, who she served alongside at the Battle of Hampton Roads. Very shortly after Hampton Roads she was cut down to converted into an ironclad, much like her sister Merrimac had been converted into Virginia. However, unlike Virginia Roanoke was to be revolutionary and be the first ship to mount more than two turrets. The plans originally called for four turrets to be mounted, however to save weight this was reduced to three turrets.

Much like many other experimental ironclads of the time, her design proved to be less than ideal, rolling heavily on the voyage from New York to Hampton Roads, and her draft being too deep to operate near the shallow Confederate ports farther south. She was set to be nothing more than a harbor defense ship at Hampton Roads for the remainder of the war, was placed in reserve after its end, and sold for scrap in 1883.

This ship is modeled in 1/600 scale and can be printed using any resin or FDM printer. Ship comes with and without base.

When printing in FDM, some details may be too small to print with a stock 0.4mm nozzle.
