USS Constellation 1797 / USS Congress 1799 Frigates
Nominally 38 gun frigates of the United Sates Navy. Both were ordered in the Naval Act of 1794 as two of the original six frigates. Constellation was launched in 1797 and Congress in 1799. Both could and often did carry up to 48 guns and the model represents that as well as the 1812 layout.
This model contains deck planking, cannons and gunports. Two hull versions are supplied for resin and fdm printing.
The ship hull and shape was built as accurately as possible to admiralty plans. The hull under the waterline was then removed and the upper parts were simplified in detail at the bow, thickened in the stern, windows exaggerated, and deck detail exaggerated. All this to be able to print out at 1:700 (and larger) scales. Smaller scales are possible but would likely require a resin printer for the best results.
Contains:
The sails are of a generic 4th rate size or equivalent and will be usable with other published similar sized ships. Does not include the ratlines, flags or rigging string. This print may need supports at the stern when printing in FDM. Supports will be required for the sails when resin printing
Photos are of a grey coated fdm model with 4th rate sails
For assembly, please see the photos on the Intrepid-class 64 gun model (on this site) showing the bowsprit parts and mizzen (rear sail parts) being assembled.
Note, due to the modular way I am building the masts/sails then you may need to enable ‘Union overlapping volumes’ in Cura or the equivalent setting in your slicer when printing them.
