USN Porter class Destroyer (As Build)

The Porter class destroyers were a class of 8 ships. Built in 1933 ~ 1937.

The Porter class was a Destroyer leader class and thus considerable large compared to the Farragut-class. And in the original design carried eight 5-inch guns. (4 x 2) And they also carried an full set off torpedo reload. The armament varied greatly for the 8 ships in the Porter class during WW 2.

As built;

8 x 5 inch (127 mm)/38 caliber guns, 8 x 1.1 inch/75 caliber machine guns, 2 x .5 inch Machine guns, 8 x 21-inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes (2 x 4) and  2 x depth charge stern racks.

The Porters received a number of upgrades, extra AA, 40mm Bofor in both twin and quad setup, 20 mm Oerlikons, removal/replacement of some or all twin 5 inch turrets, 4 x K-guns added, due to heavy damage to some ships other modifications have been included.

During WW2 only the USN Porter was lost in WW2, during the battle of the Santa Cruz Islands Oct 1942.

This model is the;

  • Type 1 ~ 1940 - Porter class as build (It includes 4 different setup of the aft motorboats, minimal difference, but just a nice extra)

Non Commercial and personal use only.

The models are provided in 1/1000 scale and are Resin print only.

1/1800 - resize to 55,56%

1/1200 - resize to 83,5%

There are a number of bases provided, text recessed and the text raised. I used the recessed version for FDM printed bases. Finally a base without text is also included. Do not forget to also re-scale the bases if you print in 1/1200 or  1/1800 scale.

Bases provided for Porter class and named bases for all the 8 ships in class.

Also included 1/1800 scale pre-supported models for each of type (only 1 pre-supported version of Type 1) which I used for the test-prints on my Anycubic Mono SE (0.05mm layer) using standard resin. Use at your own risk, might be best you create your own supported files, which prints best on you own printer. Some parts are rather delicate, mainly the gun barrels, and you will need to remove support carefully.

The base was printed on an Ender 5 pro (0.16 mm layer) standard PLA. But could also be printed in Resin if you want, which will provide a better print compared to my PLA printed bases. (no supported file provided)
