Hr.Ms. Z 5 Class Torpedo boat

Royal Netherlands Navy Z5-class Torpedo boats. 4 Ships have been build, Z5, Z6, Z7 and Z8.  The Z5 was rebuild and had an different deck-layout (it is also offered as a separate model).

All the Z5-class ships were still in service when the Germans attacked in May 1940, the ships made there way to the UK, the Z6, Z7 and Z8 did not see any further action in WW2.

The Z5 had much more "fun". During the German attack on The Netherlands 10th May, Z5 was ordered to attack the German positions in Rotterdam, hitting multiple MG-nest and German Float planes with her two 75mm Guns and her two 12.7 mm Machine guns. She sailed to the UK 14th of May to avoid capture by the Germans. She served in the British Navy as HMS Z5 and was renamed to HMS Blade. She survived WW2, and was stricken on April 1945 and scrapped Dec 1945.

Three versions are included;

  1. As build - Four torpedo-tubes (2 front and 2 aft), two 75 mm guns - (Z5, Z6, Z7, Z8)

  2. Added Two single 12.7mm Machine guns. (Sometime between 1930 ~ 1935)  - (Z6, Z7, Z8)

  3. Aft torpedo-tubes and the Single 12.7 mm MG's removed. Added one twin 12.7mm Machine gun at the location of the aft-torpedo-tubes.  (After 1935 and thus the 1940 setup) - (Z6, Z7, Z8)

The models are provided in 1/1000 scale and are Resin print only.

1/1800 – resize to 55,56%

1/1200 – resize to 83,5%

Bases are provide with "Z5-Class TB"  and also named bases for each ship. And comes in 2 versions. Text recessed and the raised. I used the recessed version for FDM printed bases. Finally a base without text is also included. Do not forget to also re-scale the bases if you print in 1/1200 or 1/1800 scale.

Also included a 1/1800 scale pre-supported model of the Z5-1940 setup which I used for the test-prints on my Anycubic Mono SE (0.05mm layer) using standard resin. Use at your own risk, might be best you create your own supported files, which prints best on you own printer. Some parts are rather delicate, mainly the gun barrels, and you will need to remove support carefully.

The base was printed on an Ender 5 pro (0.16 mm layer) standard PLA, but feel free to print the Base with a Resin-print, that will give much better text quality.
