The Bolt Action v.2 rule book comes with twelve basic game scenarios, which range from “m’eh” to “not bad”, but most players soon yearn for something a bit more dynamic. Back in 2016 the old WWPD group released a pack of alternative scenarios, and they have become favourites for tournament organizers and casual players alike.
One of the WWPD scenarios I consider my favourite is “Kittyhawk Down.” The scenario requires both players to be aggressive and advancing to the table centre from the start of the game and adds a wonderful degree of randomness with the “landing” of the objective at the start of T 4.
WWPD Kittyhawk down scenario
The scenario requires a five-inch round objective marker, to represent the crashed aircraft that becomes the game’s objective. The scenario writer suggests using a standard CD / DVD disk to represent this objective. Some players dress up their game by using an aircraft model, but that poses the issue of keeping the model proportionate to the 5” marker size and the available table space.
To answer this, I have designed a series of objective markers for use in Kittyhawk down. All .stls were designed for FDM printing. These consist of
- A marker with a generic fighter bomber – which can represent an aircraft similar to an American F 4 Wildcat, P-40 or P-47, Soviet LaGG, Italian G.50, or any other nation's aircraft if you squint. I kept it generic to allow it to be employed regardless of which armies are on the table. The pilot’s canopy is pulled back in the crashed plane, to better reveal the valuable document therein.
- A marker with a generic liaison plane – think of a German Fieseler Storch or the American L-4 Grasshopper. Again, the plane was purposely designed to be generic.
- A plain five-inch crater
Printing
The .stls were designed and test printed in FDM. Although they should be printable in resin, the models are too large for my resin printer.
I recommend using supports “everywhere” in printing, the design layout results in a minimal amount of support but remove the supports with care.
