Combined Masts and Sails for 1:700 and 1:1000 Scale Age of Sail ships
A free set of combined masts and sails for 1:700 and 1:1000 scale model ships. Includes 1st and 2nd rate, 3rd rate, 4th rate, 5th rate, 6th rate and unrated sizes for 1:700 as well as 1st/2nd and 3rd rate resin sizes for 1:1000. Also includes a generic anchor for ships of the line.
The 1:700 models should be compatible with Black Seas models but may require a small amount of filler as the mast diameter on these are slightly less. The photos show both fdm and resin printed versions of the masts/sails/bowsprit/gaff sail for various sized models.
The 1:1000 models are resized to be printed in resin for Sails of Glory.
Includes both resin and fdm printable versions for 1:700 and resin only versions for 1:1000.
Resin print versions (1:700 and 1:1000):
Due to the lack of strength in thin resin strips these will require metal rods cutting and inserting to the bottom most section of each mast and the bowsprit to add significant strength to the models. I use 18 gauge swg (not awg) florists wire (around 1.2mm) but any wire with a diameter of between 1.2 to 1.5mm should be fine. Also note that resin shrinkage tolerances can vary based on exposure and curing so fitting results may vary.
For the Sails of Glory models 1mm wire should be ok.
FDM print versions (1:700):
These contain masts and sails split down the middle to allow support free printing. Once complete they will need to be glued together and the lowest part cut down to size to fit your model. If you have a slightly flattened first layer on your print then this may need to be sanded down when the sides are glued together. For fitting the bowsprit parts together please see the photos on the Intrepid 64 gun ship model on this site.
