WWII British Deacon Armoured Ammunition Carrier based on a Matador Lorry 1-56 scale plastic printing

I originally designed my Deacon SPG  model back in March/April of 2021 to enable me to print a 1/28th scale model for a regular client. Having spent too many hours on developing the SPG  I thought I had best finish the story of the Deacon by creating its final incarnation as an Armoured Ammunition Carrier. Commonly attached to 25 pdr gun batteries. I was partly spurred on by a memory of my paternal grandfather sharing one of a very limited number of war stories. He described briefly hating having to run supplies up to Monte Casino in his Bedford lorry. The Germans had the road under observation and shelling was expected. He recalled hearing incoming shells all the time and stated that on one of trips he heard an incoming barrage and seeing lorries hit ahead of him he said he had simply let go of the wheel and jumped from his cab. When I asked what happened next I got a dark stare and the reminiscences were over.

This listing will provide you with an armoured ammunition carrier, the option of 2 rear deck configurations, LMGs to protect yourself (chuckle), and some crates to create cargo.

I have not printed any of these files in resin but they should work. Indeed the LMGs will almost certainly need printing in resin. The pictures show a model printed at a layer height of 0.1mm using Ultimate Cura with "tree" supports selected.

This model is highly detailed especially the subframe. It has only ever been printed in plastic and all the parts were kitted to enable the majority of parts to be printed direct to the bed with minimal "tree" support.

This listing contains files for the key pieces with some parts being made up of several smaller parts. All large file parts can be printed at 0.15mm layer height but the models shown in the pictures were printed at 0.1mm layer height and I would advise you select this finer setting when printing yourself.

Front Cab A with smaller parts being options for the armoured cover under the engine which can be in a closed or open position to cool the motor Front Cab B & C

Subframe single piece, it will need supports I use the experimental "tree" option in Ultimate Cura. The subframe also mounts a winch and thin wire can be wrapped around it and left to hang beyond the rear axle.

Wheel. You will need 4 of the massive road wheels.

Rear Deck A.

Rear Deck B

Closed Shell crate (the lower one)

Closed Cartridge crate (the taller one)

I have also included some small files for enabling resin printing of the Bren Guns these will need a slow print speed or for best results print in resin.

Axe & Spade in brackets to be attached to vehicle.

I have always enjoyed printing this model for Ebay customers it tends to print reliably and is a model that I print with confidence.

Historical notes for the model:

Movement of the 8th Army out of North Africa saw the arrival of better towed AT guns and more practical tracked SPGs. Consequently the Deacon SPG was repurposed to be an armoured ammunition carrier with either a fully open rear deck or one with a divide. Most often this armoured ammunition carrier was assigned to Batteries of 25 pdr guns and proved useful in hauling supplies along the ever increasing supply lines as the Allies forced their way upward to Rome and the vital routes into Austria & southern Germany.

This model was designed by Neal Bowskill copyright active from April 2021 when printed models of this vehicle were first made available on Ebay.
