Supported Grant at Shiloh!

USS Tyler was acquired by the US Navy in 1861 and served in the West for her entire career. She had an eventful career for her entire length of service, seeing action against Confederate vessels, assisting in the capture of Fort Henry and Fort Donelson, and supporting General Grant at the Battle of Shiloh. Prior to the Vicksburg Campaign she was sent up the Yazoo River to search for the Confederate ironclad CSS Arkansas. She found the enemy, was abandoned by the escorting vessels, was forced to retreat the entire length of the Yazoo River with Arkansas hot on her heels. This would be her only encounter against Arkansas. Tyler would go on to support land actions during the Vicksburg Campaign and once the city fell she would support the invasion of Arkansas on the White River.
