From Wikipedia:

The Wehrmacht had inflatable watercraft in two sizes, which were used in different ways. [2]

While the small inflatable 34 were mostly used for reconnaissance troops, for attaching or removing explosive charges to objects that protruded from the water and as rescue equipment at bridge construction sites (e.g. Bridge Column B), the large raft bags , together with the assault boats , were the most important tool for crossing rivers where the enemy was not prepared for them.

The large inflatable 34 could also be used to build ferries . Depending on the number of inflatables, these were available in 2.25 t (2 inflatables), 4.5 t (4 inflatables) and 9 t (8 inflatables). As can be seen in the picture on the right, complete bridges could also be built , albeit with a limited load-bearing capacity , but these were sufficient for light vehicles and guns . In this way, a bridgehead could be formed with protection by anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons , and motorized reconnaissance troops (motorcycles or cars) could explore the area around the bridge .

As a service regulation, D 513/1 provides the following information:

Designation length Width Weight Load capacity:

Small watercraft 34 3.00 m long 1.15 m wide 55kg 4 men (3 with equipment / 300 kg)
Large watercraft 34 5.50 m long 1.85 m wide 150kg 8 men (7 with equipment / 1.35 t)
