Heinkel P.1077 - German Experimental Interceptor

The 1944 Emergency Fighter Program prompted the creation of some interesting designs, as the Luftwaffe was ready to accept almost anything to stem the B-24s and Lancasters over the heart of Germany. One such design was the P.1077 (lovely name) produced by Heinkel, a tiny interceptor powered initially by a rocket engine and meant to be launched with a skid. Wonderful.

The initial design of the P.1077, codenamed Julia, was a rather simple little aircraft; it was small, constructed of cheap materials, armed with twin thirty-millimeter guns, and piloted prone. The very small cockpit size suggests that the pilots were meant to be members of the Hitler Youth, as squeezing an adult male into the 1077 would have been tricky. Takeoff was to be achieved via four detachable rocket boosters and a skid which would drop off after takeoff, much like many other designs. One prototype of the Julia was constructed, but it was destroyed in a bombing raid (ironic) before it could be tested.

The following models solved some of Julia's problems; the second design, Julia II, was identical excepting the cockpit, which was now sized appropriately for the pilot to be sitting down rather than prone. Building on the Julia II was the final model of the aircraft, codenamed Romeo. This final evolution in the P.1077's rather unsuccessful family tree did away with the Walter HWK 109-509 rocket motor which previously powered the aircraft, replacing it with the classic Argus As 14 pulsejet the Germans were so obsessed with. Neither Julia II nor Romeo were ever constructed, and the program was terminated.

Rather simple file. Print at 0.1mm layers with supports, be careful around the tail and wingtips. I have included files of Julia I, Julia II, and Romeo, though I did not print or take photos of Julia II given as it is simply Romeo without a pulsejet. I have also included files of Romeo with both the rocket and pulsejet, simply... because. There is no historical basis for this file, it's simply a bonus. RATO versions of all included.
