GB: HMS Vesuvius (Bomb Vessel), 1776-1812

This model of HMS Vesuvius, an Etna-class Bomb Brig, depicts the ship after being rebuilt, with her stern significantly altered and her helm replaced with a tiller.

A bomb vessel is a type of unrated naval ship primarily armed with mortars, capable of firing shots elevated to a high angle. Bombs employed fuses allowing for relatively precise bombardments. They were primarily used against shore targets.

Vesuvius and her sister ship Aetna both participated in the Second Battle of Copenhagen.
