This was a development of the original BA-27 on the stronger Ford-Timken 6-wheel chassis. It mounts the turret originally used on the T-18 tank, with a copy of the French Puteaux 37mm gun and a 7.62mm machine-gun.
There were still about 120 of them in service in 1941 when the Germans invaded in Operation Barbarossa.
