San Juan Nepomuceno class Spanish ship of the line (74 gun) 1766 - 1816
A series of 6 Spanish ships ordered from 1763 and built between 1765 and 1769.
Most well known is the lead name of the class the San Juan Nepomuceno which fought with exceptional heroism and bravery at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Ship built names were: San Juan Nepomuceno, San Pascual Bailon, San Francisco de Asis, San Lorenzo, San Agustín and Santo Domingo
Photos are of the resin printed high hull version. Photos with a single hull show the 1:700 version and photos with two hulls show the 1:700 version and a 1:1200 scale version. Photos of the completed model (with custom built masts/sails) are very kindly supplied by Sergio Herranz Fontan.
The ship hull and shape was built as accurately as possible to various plans. The hull under the waterline was then removed and the upper parts were simplified in detail at the bow, thickened in the stern, windows exaggerated, and deck detail exaggerated. All this to be able to print out at 1:700 to 1:1200 scale.
Contains:
The sails are of a generic 3rd rate size and will be usable with other published 3rd rate ships. Does not include the ratlines, flags or rigging string. No supports are usually required on any part of an fdm print. Supports will be required for the sails when resin printing.
For fdm mast assembly, please see the photos on the Intrepid-class 64 gun model (on this site) showing the bowsprit parts and mizzen (rear sail parts) being assembled.
