M247 Sgt York AA tank (USA)

This is a 1:100 detailed model of the Sgt York Anti-aircraft system, which was prototyped but not adopted for the US Army.  Variants are offered for resin and fdm printers, with a separate rotatable turret.  The vehicle was an interesting attempt at providing AA defence for mobile forces, but was cut due mainly to budget issues.

The M247 Sergeant York DIVAD (Division Air Defense) was a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG), developed by Ford Aerospace in the late 1970s. It was based on the M48 Patton tank, replacing the Patton's turret with one that featured twin radar-directed Bofors 40 mm rapid-fire guns.   It was intended to replace the M163 Vulcan Air Defense System SPAAG and MIM-72 Chaparral missile launcher (also available as model designs on this site), ad hoc systems of limited performance that had been introduced when the more advanced MIM-46 Mauler missile failed to mature.  Despite the use of many off the shelf technologies that were intended to allow rapid and low-cost development, a series of technical problems and massive cost overruns resulted in the cancelation of the project in 1985.

The base vehicle is offered as a separate hull and turret.  The hull is offered in two variants, an integrated model and a second that splits the core hull and the tracks to ease printing on fdm systems.  The barrels on the turret are very fine, but should print with careful support.  Hollow versions of the integrated hull and turret are offered to save resin on appropriate printers.

The product is offered for personal, non-commercial use.  Derivative designs for personal use may be generated, but neither the original nor derivatives may be shared with others.  Attribution of the design is requested should printed models be exhibited or otherwise shared.  Models printed from this design or derivatives may not be sold commercially.
