French frigate Aréthuse 40 gun (1792) - HMS Undaunted 38 gun 5th rate (1795)
Launched 1791. Handed over to the British during the Siege of Toulon in 1793 and renamed HMS Arethuse. Renamed HMS Undaunted in 1795. Wrecked in the West Indies in 1796.
Updates:
For more information see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_frigate_Ar%C3%A9thuse_(1792)
The ship hull and shape was built as accurately as possible to admiralty plans. The hull under the waterline was then removed and the upper parts were simplified in detail at the bow, thickened in the stern, windows exaggerated, and deck detail exaggerated. All this to be able to print out at 1:700 (and larger) scales. Smaller scales are possible but would likely require a resin printer for the best results.
Contains: 1:700 scale hull, masts with sails, the bowsprit mast and sails and the mizzen gaff/spanker sail. The sails are of a generic 5th rate size and will be usable with other upcoming 5th rate ships that will be published. Does not include the ratlines, flags or rigging string. No supports are usually required on any part of the print.
Photos are of a basic painted model with masts/sails. Accidentally forgot to add the bowsprit and bowsprit sails to the pictures.
Parts.
For assembly, please see the photos on the Intrepid-class 64 gun model (on this site) showing the bowsprit parts and mizzen (rear sail parts) being assembled. The masts/sails are printed in two halves and need to be glued together. There may be some sanding/filling required where the halves are joined.
Note, due to the modular way I am building the masts/sails then you may need to enable ‘Union overlapping volumes’ in Cura or the equivalent setting in your slicer when printing them.
Updates:
