Deweycat M3A2 Half-track - 28mm scale

Armoured transports in Bolt Action seem headed to come into their own with the release of version 3 rule set. The new rules have increased vulnerability of soft skin transport and added a higher hit probability. Fortunately, the point cost of  7+ transports has been reduced, making this option more attractive.

The ubiquitous M3 half track is much more attractive in version 3, given its reduced cost, the ability to carry up to 12 troops, coupled with its standard armament of an HMG, which now has a 48” range. The option of adding MMGs for extra points is a costly proposition, point wise, but may still appeal to some if it remains available in their selector or choice.

We can anticipate the forthcoming books  will offer the M3 half-track to the armies’ platoon of those nations which employed it in WW2  - namely the Americans, the British Commonwealth, and the Soviet Union.

There are many excellent .stls available for the M3 half-track, but I thought I would toss another one into the mix. I started with the design I created for the T-12 Motor Gun Carriage, introduced with the release of Soft Underbelly, and I converted it to the basic M3A2 troop transport. I did two separate designs – one for resin printing and one for FDM printing, with separate pieces for the front roller, front axle and HMG pulpit. This ensures the FDM hull has maximum contact with the build plate. The FDM model has some parts simplified and thickened, to address the nature of FDM printing. These models are designed for tabletop gaming, so please don’t anticipate diorama level detail.

Both the resin and FDM files have their own HGM and MMG files. The resin model has a driver figure. There are numerous options from third party model makers for driver figures and pintle weapons, should those printing in FDM want more detailed weapons than one can get from FDM.

The files include all the files-  those for FDM, resin, and resin pre-supported files.

There are files included for both FDM and resin printing

  • Please note the pre-supported files for resin printing may not be ideal for your printer, resin, or settings. They are provided as a courtesy only, and while they worked well for me, your results may vary.

  • Always clean support material away carefully and test fit before gluing.

  • If printing in FDM, I STRONGLY suggest using a brim for the printing of the small parts  - e.g. front roller, front axle, weapons, and pulpit; just to ensure they adhere to the built plate
