Inspired by the purchase of Baker Company Kickstart metal Finns I wanted a scenic marker or objective that was different and so designed the horse drawn field kitchen based on images available on the web.
Initially I intended this model to be printed in plastic and so organise the parts so that the upper and lower parts of the kitchen can be printed flat to the bed and then glued together. The model is highly detailed and needs printing at 0.1mm layer height.
This model has sold repeatedly on Ebay as a finished printed kit and tends to print reliably, though do print spares of the smaller parts as they do fail to print at times.
Recently I decided to make the model printable in resin using Water Soluble Resin. This required some variation of the model. The main parts of the kitchen are printed flat to the bed with no supports. This works for me as the resin is washed in hot water and this allows you to lift the two main parts off the print bed. Printing in this manner seems to leave a little edge around the bottom near the build plate that needs to be trimmed carefully before light curing the parts.
The model is oversized for the 1/56 scale. The files can be reduced in scale, I suggest you scale the main wheel to the size you want and then use that % to rescale the other parts.
I do NOT recommend rescaling this model down to 1/72 or 1/100 scale. I will seek to release files at this scale which are more robust and slightly simplified to be more reliable at those smaller scales.
The limber is similarly designed to be printed in parts using the flat surface of the print bed to enable you to glue the upper and lower parts of the limber together. The tow hook will need some cutting/filing to slow into place and should be glued to the lower limber carriage before it is fixed to the upper limber box.
The horse harness yoke have been reinforced but print spares and they will need to be glued to the upper limber carriage.
The limber can be printed in resin, with the same caveats as the field kitchen above.
I only recommend printing the two horses in resin.
This listing will provide the following files both for Plastic and then Resin printing.
- Upper body of the field kitchen.
- Lower body of the field kitchen.
- Main Wagon wheel.
- Chimney
- Long support leg to stabilize the deployed kitchen.
- Shorter support leg to stabilize the deployed kitchen.
Limber:
- Upper limber body.
- Lower limber carriage
- Tow hook.
- Wagon wheel you will need 2.
- Short support for limber when deployed.
- Long support for limber when deployed.
- Horse harness yoke you need 2.
Draught Horses: 2 options left and right. A metal ring hangs down on the side of the horse nearest the limber shaft. Resin printing only recommended.
These models were designed by Neal Bowskill Copyright December 2020, resin suitable files updated May 2022, no printing for commercial gain permitted.
