USS Conestoga was very similar to several other ships serving in the west, the most notable of those being USS Tyler and USS Lexington. She was so similar in fact, that at some point she got confused with Lexington. Conestoga first saw action early in the war against the gunboat CSS Jackson. She operated on the rivers in the West for her entire career and aided in taking Fort Henry and Fort Donelson. She was sunk in 1864 by a collision with USS General Price (formerly CSS General Price).
