Tropical Village Pack
This package consists of a selection of
- simple Huts: Hut, A, B, and C, plus mirrored versions of Hut A & B, thereby giving you five different hut designs (as the window location varies in each hut)
- a colonial administration building, which includes optional flag (Japan and France, plus a blank flag and a blank flagpole, should you wish to use a paper flag) and an alternate sign which comes with paper print outs in English and French language
- a corrugated steel supply hut – this building has a sign board by the front door; there are files to print a sign to cut and glue to this panel in both English and French (assuming that if taken over by the Japanese they would have simply left the original sign up,m given the fairly short stay they had (early 1942 – 19450
Each building comes with
- the building
- the roof
- an optional wood floor
- an optional raised stilt base to raise the building off the ground
- stairs for use with raised floor
- the simple residential huts have optional doors which can be added if desired.
Assembly
If choosing the raised base for the buildings, you may choose to finish the base before gluing on the floor.
When assembling the Colonial Administration building please note the floor extends toward the building front, to allow assembly with the covered porch roof and stairs. Always test fit before gluing
Printing
The test prints in the photos were printed at .3mm with full supports. Remove supports with care. Test fit before gluing.
** ADDED Suggestion : 2021-December-14 : one reviewer noted he issues with the fit. I followed with him both by my email and response but have yet to hear back. I double checked the files as well as the actual prints. All are square, with the normal spacing between interlocking removable parts (e.g. roofs / house). As I do not have any photos of the issues he noted, I can’t say anything more than the models have been printed repeatedly without issue. If you are concerned before you purchase, please email be at [email protected] and can send you the base hut and roof file for you to try your own test print **

The huts are cool, nice variations. However, the models are not really optimized for FDM printing. Some of the roofs don’t contact the bed all the way around so they need a couple layers of supports. The roofs also are not scaled correctly to the buildings. I made them work, but the models need a few tweaks to line with the building walls better.

Thank you for your comment. I sent you an email the day it was posted but perhaps it went to your spam folder. I am sorry to hear you found some issues with the pack.
In regard to the roofs I make the roofs one piece. Previously I did my roofs in multiple parts – flat print roof/side walls etc and left the user to glue it all together. I found the slight savings of print time was not balanced out by the pain in assembling with a proper glue for PLA and have gone to one-piece roofs for the past year.
The edges of the roof sections for this pack were left purposely rough to suit the rustic nature of the construction as opposed to more structured western style buildings. It does require supports, but I want to avoid the very box-like look found in MDF buildings. The small building’s roofs have a flat contact with the build plate, the large buildings have an extended overhand, so the side walls are above the build plate, but again that was necessary to allow the design to carry through.
I rechecked the models and found that on all the buildings my test models fit loosely, with the roof section ends keeping the roof in place while on the main buildings. There was play in the fit, so fitting shouldn’t be an issue. If you could send me a photo of the issue it would be appreciated, as I am puzzled where you found the fitting issue.
The buildings are all simple square/rectangles, so I do not understand why they would be out of square for you post-print. The buildings have floors and by sitting and gluing the printed main building to the appropriate floor their accurate square shape can be ensured.

Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon,
Marc

While I don’t disagree with Jeff’s issues with the roofs, I found the supports very easy to remove, and the fit was good ENOUGH to the buildings. Part of the issue is just the issue with PLA supports – they simply suck to remove. That’s not the designer’s fault here.
I printed every piece included in this package (including two roofs in resin because I was losing my patience having to use woodworking chisels to remove all the support material), painted them, and they worked beautifully for a game I had between my Japanese and the allied armies of a couple gaming friends.
I would happily pay for these again. It was a good printing experience, per usual with Marc’s designs.
