Soviet T-40 light tank stl pack

$4.50

In Bolt Action Reinforced Platoon building the Soviet Army list is only second to that of Germany when it comes to a plethora of unit choices. Both nations were unique is having placed bullets well ahead of butter in their budgeting priorities.

The Soviet early war tank list runs from the tiny T-37 tankette to the behemoth T-35. The wide range of terrain over the vast territory that composed the USSR posed specific challenges. One such responses was the Soviet development of amphibious tanks. Although Vickers did toy with the amphibious tank concept, those were produced in small numbers. The Soviets weren’t ones for half measures, and having investigated the Vickers-Lloyds models, designed and produced thousands of light amphibious tankettes – the T-37A and T-38.

The Soviets resigned the limitations of these models and immediately sought to improve them, with a larger, better armed model, this being the T-40. The T-40 was a two-man tank, armed with a DShK HMG and a coaxial MMG.

Production started in 1940 and the T-40 tank entered service in time for the campaign in Finland and later in Barbarossa. The urgency created by the German invasion led to a simplification of the design, and the amphibious features were removed. Accurate production numbers are hard to nail down, but the number would be in the 1,000 range for all models.

The T-40 is an offering in both the Soviet and Finnish Army tank list. Captured models were employed by Finland against their Soviet opponents.

Ironically, in Bolt Action, the T-40 isn’t credited with being an amphibious tank and doesn’t have that attribute in the game.

This .stl pack includes files specifically for resin and FDM printing. There are two hull .stls supplied – the more complex hull with the amphibious drive – a prop and twin rudders – for resin printing; and the later, simplified model with those parts removed and plugged for FDM.
