Martian Fighting Machine

$8.00

Having never read any of H.G. Wells’s works, I read the War of the Worlds a few months back (February?) and very quickly decided that I needed a Fighting Machine in real life. However, at the time, I had too much going on to do any serious modelling or painting. The image of my Soviets going into battle against a Tripod, however, never left. For some context on what the heck this is;

The Fighting Machines (known also as Tripods or sometimes as Things) were Martian armored fighting vehicles used during their invasion of Earth in 1894, and presumably during other Martian campaigns. They were estimated to have been about one-hundred feet tall and capable of moving surprisingly quickly for their immense size. They strode on three legs, being capable of fording rivers and managing rough terrain. Their two ‘arms’ carried either a Heat-ray or a launcher for Black Smoke, a form of chemical weapon. Approximately thirty were launched to Earth via capsules, all eventually being destroyed. Only four were destroyed by the military—the rest met their end via simple bacteria.

This model, which I have worked on for a few weeks now, is based off of Alvim Correa’s depictions of the Tripods, as these were the most accurate to H.G. Wells’s vision—though, it does have a few differences. My depiction has only one central viewport (I may make a two-port version in the future), and lacks the tentacles described on the bottom (you could make these out of wire if you so desired.) It is eighty feet tall in 28mm. It has only been tested in FDM (as I do not have a resin printer), though the arms would likely print better in FDM. Assembly is rather straightforward. The legs do not have to be in any particular arrangement, as to create different poses should you print multiple Tripods.
