I’ve bought most of the landing craft files from MaB. they are good files and print easily on my Prusa with no supports. Flat on the plate, with a 5mm brim for safety. I was keen to get this model as it was deployed widely on D-Day in the British beach sectors.
Since printing it, I tried to arrange some 1:300 tanks on the deck. They didn’t fit well, the ramp in particular is too narrow to fit a tank. Some of these LCT carried the DD swimming tanks, which are a little wider than a normal Sherman. I compared the dimensions of the printed model to the actual size as listed on Wikipedia (it may not be accurate), and found it seemed about 5 percent too small. Reprinted at 105% and it looks better but still I can’t fit my DDs in.
I’ve since come across the rebuilt LCT7074 at Southsea. It is an original LCT3 from WW2 and has been beautifully restored. From the pictures, it seem like this model is rather different. While the overall dimensions are close at 105%, the side walls are too thick. The outside should be one smooth plane from top to bottom. The hull sides on the model ares wider from near the base of the tank deck. This accounts for the tank deck being too narrow. In reality this model could carry two lines abreast of tanks, up to about 10 Shermans.
It’s a nice model, with a little tweaking it could be a great representation of an LCT3.
