Italian 47-32 Elefantino Gun

Although likely the most iconic gun associated with the WW2 Italian Army was the “Cannone  da 47/32 model 1935”, it was in fact an Austrian design that was produced under license by the Italians. It also served with the Dutch Home Army and its Colonial East Indies forces, the KNIL. The Finns used them against the Soviets, having purchased them both from the Italians and the Swiss.

The gun was used not only as an anti-tank gun but as a light field gun, which supported the Italian doctrine of forward deployment of light pieces capable of direct fire HE support. The wheels detached, allowing for a low profile. The carriage was not robust and instead of towing long distances, the gun would be ported or broken down into multiple pack animal loads.

It was also mounted on many Italian fighting vehicles.
