The development of the ATS-59 was based on the proven hull and running gear of the T-54 main battle tank, it even used the same V12-cylinder diesel engine, re-designated as type A650 and limited to 300 HP at 2600 rpm from 38.8 litres volume. The running gear consisted of five road wheels on torsion bars and the drive sprockets in front. The main disadvantage of the original ATS-59 was its small cab, necessitating personnel transport on the rear loading platform. Thus it was very quickly replaced by the ATS-59G, modelled here, with a larger NBC-rated cab seating seven people. The engine was moved from the front to the centre of the vehicle, with transmission and final drives in front of the engine.
This is a 1:100 model of the ATS-59G, in two forms. An integrated version is provided for resin printing, and a second version with separate tracks and cab top for fdm printers. The tracks are best printed with the axles vertical, and care will be required in printing the cab roof to ensure that the front pillars are not damaged when removing supports. Otherwise, this is a straightforward model to print.
The product is offered for personal, non-commercial use. Derivative designs for personal use may be generated, but neither the original nor derivatives may be shared with others. Attribution of the design is requested should printed models be exhibited or otherwise shared. Models printed from this design or derivatives may not be sold commercially.
Soviet artillery pieces are planned for release in the near future, and the S-75 launcher is already available, but may need modification for use with this tractor.
